Cytokinesis blocked micronucleus (CB-MN) assay for biodosimetry of high dose accidental exposure

Background: Most of the cytogenetic dosimetry, except Premature Chromosome Condensation assay, saturates at 6 Gy. Present studies are aimed to assess feasibility of simple CB-MN assay for prescreening of high dose accidental exposures. Materials and Methods: Human peripheral blood lymphocytes from two donors were gamma irradiated to different doses ranging from 0-15Gy, cultured for 72 h. Cytoch...

Division decisions and the spatial regulation of cytokinesis.

Cytokinesis in plant cells in accomplished when a membranous cell plate is guided to a pre-established division site. The orientation of the new wall establishes the starting position of a cell in a growing tissue, but the impact of this position on future development varies. Recently, proteins have been identified that participate in forming, stabilizing and guiding the cell plate to the corre...

Arabidopsis TANGLED Identifies the Division Plane throughout Mitosis and Cytokinesis

BACKGROUND In premitotic plant cells, the future division plane is predicted by a cortical ring of microtubules and F-actin called the preprophase band (PPB). The PPB persists throughout prophase, but is disassembled upon nuclear-envelope breakdown as the mitotic spindle forms. Following nuclear division, a cytokinetic phragmoplast forms between the daughter nuclei and expands laterally to atta...

Adherens junctions determine the apical position of the midbody during follicular epithelial cell division.

Cytokinesis is asymmetric along the apical-basal axis of epithelial cells, positioning the midbody near the apical domain. However, little is known about the mechanism and purpose of this asymmetry. We use live imaging of Drosophila follicle cell division to show that asymmetric cytokinesis does not result from intrinsic polarization of the main contractile ring components. We show that adheren...

Cytokinesis in eukaryotes.

Cytokinesis is the final event of the cell division cycle, and its completion results in irreversible partition of a mother cell into two daughter cells. Cytokinesis was one of the first cell cycle events observed by simple cell biological techniques; however, molecular characterization of cytokinesis has been slowed by its particular resistance to in vitro biochemical approaches. In recent yea...
